A hero who saved a little boy from a burning car broke down in tears as he spoke about being unable to save the boy’s sister. Anthony Slater, from Florida, didn’t hesitate to risk his life when he saw the car up in flames after it crashed into a tree. The kids’ dad was laying on the ground next to the car, injured and unable to move, shouting for help.
After great effort, Anthony managed to free Walker, who is three-year-old, but as he did he noticed there was another child trapped in the car who was falling in and out of consciousness. The flames were rising and time was running out before the vehicle became completely engulfed.
He told WSVN: “My heart aches for that little girl I couldn’t save. She was crying, and I was talking to her, trying to calm her down, and I had to leave her.
“Really sad for her, that I couldn’t save her life, but I’m glad that I was able to save her brother.”
Both Anthony and the boy were severely burnt in the blaze and were taken to the hospital. They are now recovering. There has been no update on the dad. The children’s mother, Logan Deines, posted on Facebook: “My babies are so so so beautiful and precious! Five years wasn’t enough, and it will never be.”
“[I can’t help but] think… life is so unfair. My baby was a fighter! She was so tough… I’ll forever be heartbroken but humble because I know she is with her maker. I love her so much!” She also thanked everybody who has been supporting her through the nightmare.
A GoFundMe page was set up to help the family through the horrifying time, as plans are in place for the five-year-old girl, JoLynn’s, funeral.
JoLynn was described as a “free-spirited little girl who loved animals, the Bible, Elsa, Spidey Kids and his Amazing Friends, and her favourite movie of all, Avatar”.
