Jurgen Klopp wished to exchange Mohamed Salah with Man Utd mega flop at Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp wanted to replace Mohamed Salah with Manchester United flop Antony.

Salah, 32, has been one of the best players the Premier League has ever seen – but he has been linked with a move away from Liverpool numerous times over the past couple of seasons. And back in 2022, Klopp has been weighing up a move for Antony if Salah left.

According to The Times, Salah has been locked in contract renewal negotiations with the Reds. And it was FSG’s Mike Gordon that decided the best use of resources was to renew his contract, with Klopp weighing up replacement options.

One of those options was Antony, who would instead move to the Red Devils that summer for £82million – managing a measly 17 goal involvements in 87 appearances since putting pen-to-paper on a deal.

While it’s unknown how Antony, who had been a star at Ajax, might have fared under a different boss in a different city, it’s safe to assume he wouldn’t have been able to fill the sizeable boots of Salah.

Salah’s contract is up at the end of the season.

The Egyptian star shared an update over his future earlier this month when he took to social media to express the team’s determination to make a serious bid for the Premier League title after beating Brighton 2-1.

He said, on Instagram: “Top of the table is where this club belongs. Nothing less. All teams win matches but there’s only 1 champion in the end. That’s what we want. Thank you for your support last night. No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like.”

Salah also admitted “it’s my last year at the club” speaking after the Reds thrashed United 3-0 earlier this season.
