Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is set to make do with a tighter transfer kitty than his predecessor Erik ten Hag and focus on honing the talent within his squad.
The 39-year-old coach is gearing up for his first week at the helm of Old Trafford, prepping for his inaugural match leading the Red Devils against Ipswich Town this coming weekend. The United hierarchy are confident Amorim can extract peak performances from high-profile flops like £55million injury-hit Mason Mount and goalshy £72m striker Rasmus Hojlund.
Having touched down in Manchester last week, Amorim has already had sit-downs with top brass including chief executive Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth, and technical director Jason Wilcox. According to The Telegraph, Amorim will be granted time to evaluate his squad, with their response to his methods influencing any future transfer decisions.
Amorim has expressed gratitude for the trust shown by United’s chiefs. The former Sporting CP manager is buoyed by the club’s strategy as he looks to arrest their slump to 13th in the Premier League, reports the Mirror.
“When Manchester United talked to me, Omar, they told me about their plans,” he shared during his initial interview. “It’s a real honour because I was the first choice to start that path. So it’s a great responsibility.

“But you feel honoured and excited to be part of that. And we know that if the team plays well and wins games, everything looks so much better and the people really start to believe in the new stadium and new ideas.”
Amorim added: “I felt a connection [with Berrada, Ashworth and Wilcox] and I felt we are in the same moment. We want to do something special in the special club. So, I think that was a key point.”
There’s a shake-up on the cards at United, with Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans’ contracts ticking down and big calls looming for Harry Maguire and Amad Diallo too.
