We in contrast Christmas sandwiches from Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and M&S – winner

The festive sarnie showdown at the Express office has found its winners and losers among the supermarket Christmas sandwich offerings.

Out of M&S, Tesco, Morrisons, and Asda’s range, only two managed to bag a perfect score of five out of five. And one supermarket was left blushing with the lowest score on the board for their Yuletide bites.

Kicking off with Asda, their Cracking Christmas Club sandwich nearly hit the top marks, scoring a nifty 4.5 stars and priced at £3.35. What’s in this epic feast? It’s a grand decker stuffed with granary bread with a sneaky white slice in the mix loaded with mature Cheddar cheese, bacon, chicken, a tangy cranberry chutney, and some onion stuffing.

The reviewer exclaimed: “That is good! ” She had a particular fancy for the chutney, but reckoned if they just eased up on the stuffing it’s a solid top mark, addng: “Tone it down on the stuffing a little bit, and that will be wow.”

Another belter from Asda was the Hog Roast sammy, retailing at three quid, which turned out “better” than expected by the snacker-in-chief.

Dripping in Bramley apple sauce, herby mayo, and topped off with crispy fried onions, the reviewer buzzed about how it really kicked the taste buds into life, saying the “generous helping of meat” ticked the right boxes.

Even though they normally prefer brown bread, this time around, they admitted “the soft white bread actually worked” wonders. They kidded that it’d be unstoppable if only the roast popped off a BBQ, landing a decent four-star verdict.

Other options, such as Asda’s Boxing Day Sandwich (£2.50) packed with chicken, ham, coleslaw and balsamic onion chutney didn’t fare well in reviews.

The Boxing Day Sandwich received a paltry two-out-of-five rating due to the “very strong” onion – not ideal for those planning on a mistletoe encounter this Christmas. The reviewer lamented: “Very disappointing… but it’s only 385kl [calories] so it’s not bad.”

Just slightly better was Asda’s Let it Spice Curry Wrap (£3), described as “essentially a twist on a coronation chicken wrap”, which “had a good crunch”.

Top-rated Christmas sandwiches include Tesco’s Ho-Ho-Hog Wrap of pulled pork and apple slaw, M&S Pigs In Blanket Sandwich and MandS Surf and Turf Brioche Rolls – all earning five stars!

Perhaps it was sandwich fatigue, but when it came to reviewing Morrisons festive range, the feedback was less than stellar. Their Best Slow Cooked Beef and Roast Potato sandwich wasn’t a hit, with several people criticising the potato.

“Stodgy potato,” one reviewer noted. “Bit dry,” said another. “I don’t like the potato in the sandwich.”

However, another reviewer praised: “The flavours are really good.” This led another reviewer to admit: “The beef is nice.”

On average, Morrisons The Best Slow Cooked Beef and Roast Potato sandwich scored around three. As for the worst festive offering, Morrison’s Pigs Under Blankets was given a mere one star.

“I don’t like it,” the reviewer stated.

Some mischievous elves have been up to their old tricks, swiping the food and failing to leave a review for Tesco’s Festive Chicken and Bacon Wrap and Cracking Curry West Sausage and Onions.
