A ‘darkish drive’ is pushing our universe aside and scientists have their theories why

For years scientists have been observing a strange force which is thought to be tearing apart our universe.

And it’s nothing to do with a volcanic eruption on the moon.

New revelations reveal that the so-called dark force is not all it seems. Previously, experts thought it was pressure from ancient galaxies that surround ours that were pushing and pulling the Milkyway. Despite being aware of the strange force, scientists could not name the phenomenon, and instead just dubbed it the dark force. It was accelerating the pushing of our universe, but some experts believe that might not be the case anymore.

It is a big energy, which makes up just below 70% of the whole universe. For reference, all the stars and planets and people make up just 5%. However, 900 scientists from around the globe paired up to take a closer look – and their findings were surprising.

They looked at how the galaxies surrounding ours moved. The force was then found to be completely inconsistent, and did not push and pull our Milkyway at all times. Instead it went through periods of more force than others.

A high-tech telescope named the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument, based in Tucson, Arizona, scientists mapped out an 11billion year history of the entire universe. There they observed how galaxies clustered and moved throughout the years. Here, they made predictions on where the universe may be heading in the future.

From the map they concluded that a constant “dark force” would not make sense for the patterns they observed. They thought the energy was changing and weakening over time.

This was not the result they were expecting, as this disproves the majority of scientist’s thoughts on the matter. Some even think there might be something else going on that is pulling our universe apart.

The original theory appears to be more popular, that galaxies simply expand on their own. This related to Einstein’s theory of general relativity, which would cause other galaxies to cluster around ours.

While the theories are new scientists are hoping to gather more evidence, as the answer will give a clue on the fate of the universe.
