A road safety vigilante has landed themselves in hot water after erecting a whole host of explicit signs for motorists.
Cops in Boulder, Colorado, say they are investigating after signs with profane messages were found posing as speed limit signs around the city on Tuesday. Crews from the city’s Transportation and Mobility Department were in the process of removing the offending items from the roadsides, which were discovered in the morning. According to the authorities, the person responsible for putting them up could face charges of criminal tampering.
However, some motorists have remarked that the new additions to the highways are merely saying what they think.

While not all signs resorted to colourful language, their messaging throughout was blunt and clear as they urged drivers to slow down and not drive distracted in their own unique way.
According to the city of Boulder’s crash data interactive map tool, there were three fatal crashes in Boulder during 2023, but none occurred near where the signs were placed.
Boulder police spokeswoman Dionne Waugh said the controversial signage read: “Get off your damn phone, Slow down b*tch, Put the phone down b*tch, Don’t kill any kids today, and Slow the f**k down”.
Waugh said the department is investigating the posted signs as criminal tampering and asks that anyone with information call their non-emergency number at 303-441-3333 regarding case no. 24-12182.
However, while authorities have deemed the actions criminal, responses to the signage from the general public has been a little more favourable. In response to the news, one poster wrote: “They should leave em up.”
Another said: “I wondered when that would happen somewhere in the state. Someone actually had the cajones to post something that so many of us are thinking. It would be really funny if it wasn’t so true.”
While a third added: “Profane?….if you say so….. but not really….. putting it up isnt a crime….. taking it down is.”
