A Tesco customer claims they were left in pain after being injured by an “extremely dangerous” item found in a meal from the supermarket. Venting their outrage on social media, the shopper said: “Extremely dangerous sharp piece of plastic that seems to break from the tray when cooking your Oriental Style Takeaway with Vegetable Spring Roll 500g meal.”
They said a 20mm long shard of plastic “stabbed the roof of my mouth”. And the shopper warned the situation could have been ‘even worse’, adding: “God help you if this had happened to one of my children.”
The post was accompanied by a snap of a pointed plastic piece. Tesco responded with an apology and asked for the customer to contact them directly to sort out the issue.
As of the time of writing, Tesco has not issued a further statement about the incident. It comes after another Tesco shopper had a curious issue with a product when their online order took a bizarre turn.
They had requested a green veg side dish but were offered an apple crumble as a substitute. Tesco has apologised for the unexpected dessert suggestion, urging the customer to send them a direct message with their full name, account email, and order number to get things sorted.
The supermarket giant insists that most online orders do not have any such issues, with no need for a substitutions. When you’re doing your online shop, you can choose whether or not you want substitutions if they’re missing an item.
The shop chain assures they will always offer you a substitution that is as good or better than the original item. The price will be the same as for what you first requested, even if the replacement is more expensive.
You will also get a receipt ahead of your items arriving, with details of individual prices and the total spend. Another Tesco customer was recently unhappy with their online shop as they ordered some Ibuprofen which arrived with some of the tablets seemingly removed from the packets.
A Tesco spokesperson said in response: “We were sorry to hear about this and issued a refund to the customer. We have also asked the store to look into what happened.”
