Piers Morgan weighs in on ‘cancel Roy Keane calls for’ after impolite Jill Scott joke

Broadcaster Piers Morgan couldn’t contain his amusement over Roy Keane’s cheeky quip that went viral on social media.

The former Manchester United skipper, known for his intense competitive nature on the pitch, has been showcasing his lighter and wittier side since entering the broadcasting world. And recently, he demonstrated his quick humour on ‘The Overlap’, never shying away from poking fun at others.

The Stick to Football podcast set was in uproar when Keane made an impish joke during the recording with Jill Scott, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, and Ian Wright. Former England player Scott seemed to take Keane’s humorous comment in good spirit, as it was intended, reports the Mirror.

Scott had been recounting a charity football match experience: “I was playing a charity game at the weekend and Marlon Harewood absolutely smashed us, he’s a big guy,” she shared with the group. Scholes replied: “He’s a big guy.”

Wright added: “He was a big old thing, old Marlon”, before Keane interjected, dryly retorting: “And what was the game like?”

Keane then acted cluelessly as if he hadn’t made the double entendre, while the other burst into fits of laughter. Wright struggled to keep his composure, commenting: “Roy, you can’t say that! That’s got to go! ” but Scott was keen for the producers to leave it in, pleading, “Please keep that in.”

On X, where the clip now has just shy of seven million views, Morgan dropped his own thoughts on the joke. He tweeted: “This is very ‘inappropriate’, and will deeply offend every member of the joyless over-sensitive snowflake woke brigade, who will all now demand Roy Keane be cancelled (good luck with that… ) – and I laughed my head off.”

It does not look like Roy Keane is anywhere near the sort of cancellation Morgan is playfully hinting at. His quip certainly threw the chat off-track though, with Wright admitting: “It’s such a powerful image! I can’t unsee it!”

Keane did eventually find out what he wanted to know, with Scott confirming the game finished 7-6. And plenty of fans on social media enjoyed Keane’s joke. “Roy Keane has to be hands down the most unintentionally funny pundit on the planet,” wrote one fan. Another chimed in with: “Keane needs his own show. Comedy gold.”

A third said: “Props to Jill for taking the banter like a Champ. And Roy, he gives these diamond nuggets in between it just breaks everyone.” And a fourth said: “I’ll never get people who don’t like Jill Scott. Gives good banter takes it incredibly well and she’s enjoyable to listen to. Love the overlap tbh.”
