Millwall’s Championship clash with Sunderland has been halted due to a medical emergency in the crowd.
Medics rushed to attend to a supporter as players from both sides were led off the field by the referee in the 43rd minute at The Den, with the visitors leading 1-0 at the time, following a goal from Aaron Connolly in the 10th minute.
Millwall’s medical staff were assisted by paramedics who lifted the stricken supporter onto a stretcher and took them away for treatment as fans in the stands applauded their efforts.
Millwall then tweeted from the club’s official account: “The players have left the pitch following a medical emergency in the crowd. We send our best wishes to those receiving attention.”
Fans took to social media to send well-wishes to the supporter. One fan posted on X: “Thoughts and prayers to the fan that has fallen ill at the Millwall v Sunderland game today.” Another said: “Fingers crossed for the fan involved.”
A third commented: “Hope all ends up well. Never want to see this.” And a fourth said: “Hope the people are well and sending best wishes.”
