Brian McFadden refused to talk about his ex-wife Kerry Katona in a very awkward TV interview.

The singer, 44, appeared on the BBC documentary, Boybands Forever, where he delved into his meteoric rise to fame with the Irish supergroup, Westlife

The conversation took a personal turn when his high-profile marriage to Kerry, 44, came up.

The pair tied the knot in 2002 during the peak of their stardom, but when probed about the relationship, Brian swiftly dodged the topic.

The singer, who shares two daughters Molly, 23, and Lilly, 21, with Kerry, made it clear he was not keen to go down memory lane regarding his ex.

‘Marrying Kerry, you’re sort of…’ started the interviewer, only for Brian to quickly interrupt: ‘I don’t want to talk about her, no. Definitely no’.

The tense exchange saw the interviewer reply with a brief ‘fair enough,’ leading to an uncomfortable silence.

The former Westlife singer was reflecting on his rise to fame when the conversation turned to his widely-publicised marriage to Kerry Katona (pictured together in 2001)

‘Marrying Kerry, you’re sort of…’ started the interviewer, only for Brian to quickly interrupt: ‘I don’t want to talk about her, no. Definitely no’

To break the tension, Brian began whistling before jokingly mimicking the journalist crossing out a series of questions from their list.

Brian and Kerry started dating in 1999 and married three years later. However they separated in 2004.

Kerry later accused Brian of cheating with a stripper, though he has not addressed the claim publicly.

Whilst Brian has avoided contact with Kerry since their split, she has expressed a desire to maintain a friendly relationship.

She wrote in her New! column last year: ‘I saw that Gary Lineker recently went on holiday with his ex-wife Danielle Bux as friends – I’ve never managed to stay that close with any of my exes! I would have loved to have been like that with my first husband Brian and our children, to have been more supportive of each other.’

She continued: ‘I’ve never been able to remain friends with any of my exes but I think it’s a nice thing to be able to co-parent like that. It’s a bit like Demi Moore and Bruce Willis’ relationship. I love that dynamic and how they can still be friends despite being split up.’

Brian is now engaged to Danielle Parkinson and the pair share a three-year-old daughter, Ruby.

Kerry, meanwhile, has just split from her fiancé and partner of six years, Ryan Mahoney.

The reality star and fitness trainer, 36, went their separate ways four years after getting engaged earlier this month.

She told Ok! Magazine: ‘Last week I spoke about how Ryan and I were having a tough time and now he has moved out of the house. We are no longer together and It’s been a really tough week – I never in a million years thought this would happen.

‘Without going into too much detail, there has been a breach of trust between us.. I don’t know if we’ll be able to work it out or not, but I do still love him so much.

‘I feel like everything has heaped on recently and it’s so much to deal with, I am really struggling. But I know I can get through it no matter what happens, I’ve been through break-ups before and come out the other side, so we just need to see what happens.’
