Daily Star’s high Black Friday Currys dwelling tech, from Shark to Minky and Philips

The Black Friday sales are already underway – around a week before the actual infamous shopping day. And the Daily Star was given the chance to try out three new must-have products for your home by the good folk at Currys.

All three served a vital purpose, from coffee making to clothes drying, with one specific item doing more multitasking than an news reporter on any given average day.

So lets get to it, and see what the Daily Star’s top tech reviewer Adam Cailler made of Minky’s Suredri Four Tier Heated Clothes Airer, the Philips Series 5500 LatteGo and the Shark FlexFusion five-in-one Air Styler and Hair Dryer. All prices are correct at the time of going to press.

Minky’s Sure-dri Four Tier Heated Clothes Airer

This is very much one of those products that does what it says on the tin – but one added function makes it a must-have for working families. This, to many, would look like any other normal clothes airer. However, the added heating function cuts drying time from around 48 hours to less than a day in some cases.

Well designed, great for a family

It takes up a lot less room than you would expect, and comes with a handy cover to keep the hot air in . . . although it does have a weird opening that stops it from being fully sealed.

The four-tiers give you more than enough space for a full load, something we as a family of three really appreciated. We actually found ourselves using this over the tumble-drier, purely because it’s less noisey and claims to be cheaper to run.

Currently priced a £109 on Currys (and with four months Apple TV+ thrown in for some reason) you can also pay it off in 29 monthly instalments of £5.12, which seems FAR cheaper than using a tumble-drier.

Philips Series 5500 LatteGo

Everyone loves coffee – even if you claim not to. And the new Philips Series 5500 LatteGo is a good choice for most coffee lovers. Yes, it’s a little pricey at £649.99 (currently), but if you stop buying a Costa or Starbucks everyday, you’ll be making a profit within six months, so it’s worth the investment if you like a daily brew.

Great to show your mates

It has its upsides – such as the fact it takes up hardly any counter space, is easy to figure out the control panel, and has a handy milk jug attachment.

But it can also be quite loud when grinding and sometimes does short-change you on a full mug, despite not doing so with the same sized cup the day before. However, it looks sleek, and is something you’d happily show off to your mates if they came from for a cuppa . . . as we say up north.

Shark FlexFusion five-in-one Air Styler and Hair Dryer

This was tested by my wife – for obvious reasons – and has both good and bad points. Price at £369.99, but currently on a 10% off offer on Currys website, the newest device from Shark comes with a cracking carry case that makes it great for travelling with.

Multifunctional, but has flaws

It has the ability to curl, straighten, volumise, smooth, define and dry your hair, which is another great travel hack as you’ll only need one device. The other half assures me that the fact that the curling wands have a left and right side is a “top feature”.

However, the unit overall is very heavy, which is noticable if you take a while to dry your hair, and the weakest function is the curling irons because it makes your hair “frizzy rather than curly”.

It’s great for travellers, but maybe not as your go to device if your a GHD-type user.
