A lottery winner said she fell off her bed in utter shock when she was told just how much money she’d scooped. Christine Jane, from Launceston, Cornwall, was understandably thunderstruck when she gave the National Lottery a ring – initially thinking she’d only bagged £100,000.
However, when the lottery call handler told her she’d actually won a much larger sum – £1million – she couldn’t believe what she was hearing, and still to this day sometimes thinks it’s still a dream. Christine and husband Nick said they’ve not changed as people despite becoming millionaires. “We’re still the same people, loving people, caring people, money hasn’t changed us whatsoever,” she revealed.
The pair said they were just one week away from their wedding day when a work colleague urged Nick to buy a ticket on October 14, 2022. Christine said she had a look at their numbers and thought they’d won £100,000, so quickly called the National Lottery to double check everything. The call handler asked Christine if she was sitting down, and proceeded to tell her: “Congratulations, you’ve won a million pounds.”

“I fell off the bed,” recalled Christine. “We couldn’t believe it, my husband couldn’t believe it when he came from work. We had to show him the ticket… still now we can’t believe it.”
Christine said they bought a “nice big lovely house” as their first purchase, adding: “Some new cars, a family home, a bungalow and my sister in law is living in the bungalow now. We bought him [her husband] a van because he wanted a van, so I bought him a van,” reports BBC.
It comes after a big-time lottery winner once hilariously admitted that the first thing she’d spend her newfound fortune on was a new pair of knickers. Former teacher Frances Connolly, originally from Northern Ireland, won an astonishing £114million in 2019 and stunned people with her no-nonsense attitude to the large sum hitting her bank account. The cheery 58-year-old said the “inanimate” money has “no power over you” and that it doesn’t change people, or make them either miserable or happy.
After scooping the huge EuroMillions win, Connolly and her businessman husband Patrick, moved to Hartlepool and became “addicted” to helping others saying they had given millions away. She also set up two charitable foundations. The pair set up a yearly charity budget to help others and told The Sun: “If you were a d**khead before you had money, you’re going to be a d**khead afterwards.” Read the full story here.
