A man who last seen outside a hospital in May 2023 has been found. The family of Shane Barnett, 49, have finally found them following their relentless 18-month search for him since he vanished from University Hospital of Wales.
Shane was last spotted on CCTV at Allensbank Road, just outside the hospital, on May 7, 2023, and then vanished.
His family have tirelessly searched for him every day since, issuing numerous heartfelt appeals in hopes that someone might have information about his location. South Wales Police have now announced that Shane has been located and expressed their gratitude to everyone who assisted in the appeal to find the 49-year-old.
On Sunday, November 24, South Wales Police posted on Facebook: “Shane Barnett, 49, who was reported as missing in May last year has been found. Thank you to everyone who shared our appeals.”

Shane’s mother, Diane Bush, who spent the past 18 months with her family and SWP searching for her son, also thanked everyone who helped find Shane. She commented on the Facebook post: “I cannot thank you all for all your shares over the last 18mths, and as for the police, I cannot thank you enough, you have never given up looking and followed up on any leads, and in the end you found him , thank you so much.”
In September, South Wales Police released an artist’s impression of Shane, 15 months after his disappearance. At the time, his sister Nicola Casey revealed that police had warned the family that he may no longer be alive, but she remains determined to hold onto hope until he is found, reports Wales Online.
Speaking to WalesOnline, she said: “I have spent hours daily searching every inch of Cardiff since he went missing. I’ve put posters up, I’ve posted his picture on any Cardiff social media pages I could find. I’ve had many people message me with possible sightings which I’m so grateful for, I’ve gone there to check and unfortunately it hasn’t been him but I won’t stop checking.”
