New Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is not too impressed with players turning international breaks into mini vacations, following headlines involving Marcus Rashford and Casemiro.
Having just taken charge at Old Trafford, Amorim has started his reign amid an almost empty training ground due to many players being away for international duties. Two notable absentees from the national squads are Rashford and Casemiro, who decided to catch some downtime across the pond in the US.
Rashford, who scored in Amorim’s first game in charge which saw United draw 1-1 with Ipswich Town, was snapped enjoying some NBA action between the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets at Madison Square Garden. Casemiro, on the other hand, opted for some magical moments with a family trip to Disney World in Florida, also squeezing in time to watch Orlando Magic in action.

Amorim, while laying out his rules in Manchester, acknowledges that it’s not fair to point fingers at Rashford and Casemiro this time around. Nonetheless, he’s clear about setting a precedent, reports the Mirror.
Amorim said: “Would I set a different structure? Yes, for sure. But we cannot put this on the players. They told them they have five days off so they can fly anywhere. Because nobody in the club says you cannot fly. So we cannot, this time, put that on Rash or Case.”
Manchester United legend Gary Neville also didn’t hold back his thoughts on the matter. With United not exactly setting the world alight recently, he feels Rashford and Casemiro’s escapades send the wrong message and aren’t the best use of their recovery period.
Last week, Neville said: “I’m not that wound up about [Marcus] Rashford and Casemiro going over to the United States, but what I’m asking is, if you’ve got a four-day break, Portland is a 12-hour flight and an eight-hour time difference, your jetlag is bad, and you feel a bit [rough].

“They went to Portland, and I’m asking the question based on professionalism you’re playing badly, the team are losing, your 13th in the league, and there is a new manager coming in would you choose that trip as a break to recharge your batteries? That’s not a recharging trip. It’s not right that.”
Discussing his upcoming strategy changes, Amorim stated: “Us as a club have to set the standards and have to manage that. It’s my decision if they can have five days, or three days, or three days to rest and you cannot fly. This is something that us as a club have to decide. So this must be started in the club, with us and me being responsible in that area.”
