Tragedy as seek for lacking hairdresser results in physique on distant UK island

Tributes have flooded in after a police search for a loved hairdresser ended when a body was found.

Shanahan MacInnes, 28, disappeared at around 1.30am on Friday (November 22) in the Tindill Road area of Balivanich on the Isle of Benbecula, in the Outer Hebrides. Her disappearance sparked a major operation to find her with 60 people including cops, coast guard, emergency services and members of the public trying to find her.

The tragedy ended as a body was discovered in the Aird area of Benbecula yesterday and her family paid tribute to their “beautiful darling Shanahan”, the Mirror reported.

Her body has not been formally identified, but her family called her death an “extremely tragic accident”.

“It was nobody’s fault,” they said “We are extremely upset… We would appreciate if we could all be left to grieve our beautiful darling Shanahan.”

Her death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Shanahan was last seen wearing a burgundy tracksuit and white trainers with a black Nike tick. Her family had posted on social media that she had left behind her car, purse, phone, car and keys as they urged locals to be on the lookout for her. It was believed she had other clothes with her and may have changed into a black North Face jacket and black trainers with a gold buckle.

The Shore Room Hair and Beauty, where Shanahan worked, announced it would be closing the salon until further notice.
