British troops be part of US Air Force in hunt for thriller drones over England’s air bases

British troops have been drafted in to help the United States Air Force find out who is responsible for drones flying over three air bases in England, sources said.

It comes after a small number of drones have again been spotted flying near US Air Force bases in Suffolk, a USAF spokesperson confirmed.

Unmanned devices ranging in “size and configuration” had been tracked over three RAF bases in Suffolk and Norfolk last week. Several “small unmanned aerial systems” were spotted flying over RAF Lakenheith, RAF Middenhall, and RAF Feltwell between November 20 and 22.

A statement from the USAF read: “The number of UASs (unmanned aerial systems) fluctuated and they ranged in size/configuration.

“The UASs were actively monitored and installation leaders determined that none of the incursions impacted base residents or critical infrastructure.

“To protect operational security, we do not discuss our specific force protection measures but retain the right to protect the installation.

“We continue to monitor our airspace and are working with host-nation authorities and mission partners to ensure the safety of base personnel, facilities and assets.”
