‘Fattest rat ever seen’ by pest controller dwarfs Lucozade bottle however some folks aren’t pleased

A pest controller was faced with a terrifying sight – the fattest rat he’d ever seen. He had never had to deal with a rodent so huge, but animal lovers were not happy with his discovery.

Mikey Fullerton shared a picture of the 16-inch rat on his company’s Facebook page, open to many disapproving commenters. He placed the dead rat next to a Lucozade bottle to show off the sheer size. The caption on the DH8 Pest Control Services’ post read “imagine this crawling round your loft space on a night time” next to the hot-faced emoji.

Some users shuddered at the thought and added their own horror rodent stories. However, some thought the 29-year-old was completely out of order and shared photos of their own so-call “fur babies.”

One disapproving user claimed she was happy for the hairy squatters to live in her shed – and that she’ll even rustle up a Christmas dinner for them. The baffled dad-of-one, who concedes some see him as a ‘murderer’, said he’d ‘never known my Facebook blow up so much over a dead rat, world gone mad’ before quipping ‘RIP to Roland’.

But the online troll did not put Mikey off, instead encouraged him. He asked all the commenters to keep the hate coming and also added he wouldn’t change his way for ‘rat kissers.’

Mikey, from Consett, County Durham, said: “The biggest I’ve caught is 18 inches from head to tail, this one it about 16 inches. It’s by far the fattest rat I’ve caught.

“It’s clearly been in there for a while living the life of Riley, I removed it out of a customer’s loft. The Lucozade bottle was the first thing I came across in my van, I thought it would be good to measure it against.”

He added: “Everything’s seasonal, it’s now rats and mice season. In the summer they’ll go out and live in crop fields and when things cool down they feel the cold just like us and seek dry and warm areas, which unfortunately are people’s houses.”

Some commenters disagreed with Mikey’s profession, with one writing: “Imagine being a human who thinks they have more of a right to live than another living thing. I could never be one of those.”

Mikey added: “I’ve had conversations with people and I’ve tried to explain to them the diseases that they carry and the damage they cause and they just can’t see through it.

“They just think everything deserves to live and that’s their opinion.”
