Netflix calls for the identification of one who leaked Squid Game footage known as ‘worst leak in streaming historical past’

Netflix has gone to court to reveal the identity of the user responsible for the early leak of Squid Game Season 2 footage.

Footage from the highly-anticipated season and other Netflix Originals leaked on Discord back in August, posted by a user with the pseudonym Jace Johnson.

The individual claimed responsibility for what he or she called ‘the worst leak in streaming history’ in a Telegraph interview in September.

However, that Discord account (@jacejohns4n) has now been deleted, and the user’s real identity was never discovered.

Last week, a court in Northern California issued a subpoena to Discord, demanding that they reveal this individual’s identity, via Polygon.

Whether or not Discord will comply with the subpoena remains to be seen, though the company has recently been fighting Korean game publisher Nexeon.

The gaming company wants Discord to provide information on its users that are infringing upon Nexeon’s intellectual property.

A Discord lawyer fired back in a July letter, ‘Discord is committed to fulfilling its obligations under the law, but acting as your copyright assertion partner is not one of them.’

The attorney called Nexon’s demands “improper and overly burdensome” and said Discord already provided Nexon with “Basic Subscriber Information for a distinct set of 64 User IDs’ following an October 2023 subpoena.

As for this case, the Discord user who goes under the Jace Johnson pseudonym leaked footage not only from Squid Game Season 2 back in August, but also footage from Arcane Season 2, Heartstopper Season 3, The Plankton Movie, Terminator Zero, Dan Dan Dan and others.

‘Jace’ claimed in the Telegraph interview that he has a friend who works for the international dubbing company Iyuno, ‘and I somehow got access to their database then I Leaked those shows/movies on 4chan before posting them on Twitter.’

He added, ‘I didn’t expect It to go viral the way it did. I like to be known that’s why I’m using a fake name.’

Still, the individual said, ‘I’ll continue to leak more movies/shows. I’m currently planning my next big leak.’

Iyuno released a statement in August that read, ‘Iyuno is aware of a recent security issue, involving unauthorized access to confidential content.

‘Protecting our clients’ confidentiality and ensuring the security of their content is our highest priority,’ the statement added.

‘We are actively investigating this security breach to mitigate any potential risks and identify the responsible parties. When there are material changes or information we will make further statements,’ they concluded.
