New Mercedes ‘tremendous automotive’ will boast photo voltaic panels and AI site visitors signal recognition

Sustainability is well and truly on the minds of car manufacturers. A new super motor will see solar panel energy incorporated into along with new artificial intelligence technology.

During a workshop in Stuttgart, Germany, Mercedes revealed their futuristic car which could pave the way for drivers. They showed off a model car which features some of the key technology they’ll be introducing into their motors before 2040. They have plans to slowly add the technology as customer’s choose more environmental options.

As of 2023, there are over 40million electric cars on the road – a huge step up from the year before, when there were 26million. According to Our World in Data, this figure it expected to rise even further.

Power was one of the biggest features Mercedes focused on during their latest unveiling. Power convertors are currently used to manage voltage levels in the battery of an electric car.

However, this is not without it’s issues, as if a cell gets damaged, the entire battery could stop working. Merc has their own idea to install each battery cell with its own converter. What’s more, they’re expanding into solar power.

Their 2022 model, Vision EQXX incorporated solar panels on the electric car. This helped gain an extra 18.6 miles on a 746-mile drive with one battery charge. But they’re not stopping there.

Merc is now introducing solar coating. This involved covering every part of the car in a thin layer of photovoltaic material called nanoparticles.

This forward thinking – and rather expensive – technique is far stronger than regular solar panels. Merc says drivers could get an extra 7,450 miles of range per year. Although hot-climate drivers will appreciate it this more than the average Brit.

In around five years, Merc will transfer to a new higher-powered computer chip for their vehicles. Here, artificial intelligence systems would improve.

This means drivers could take a more hands-off approach, with cameras detecting road traffic signs and lane placement. With the new chip, this would improve almost 10 times its current capability.

Merc’s final big reveal is a new augmented reality headpiece, which shows and tells all the information you need in your eye line. It can be used to augment the view ahead so you can get clearer directions into the road and what to avoid, including other cars.
