Plane passengers ‘bind unruly man with zip ties’ as flight crew ‘did nothing to assist’

A shocking video has emerged of a man repeatedly kicking a seat on an airplane, before being restrained and tied up by fellow passengers.

The footage was captured by Gino Galofaro during a United Airlines flight from Austin to Los Angeles on November 16. Gino, a San Diego-based addiction counsellor, revealed he was awoken by the commotion and had to assist in restraining the unruly passenger. The addiction treatment service provider, who runs Hope Interventions, said: “I woke up to him kicking the seat. The flight attendant walked by a couple times, nobody was doing anything.”

The news follows the jailing of a vodka-fuelled holidaymaker, who was handcuffed to his seat after being abusive at 36,000ft.

Gino continued: “I restrained him and two other passengers were already getting zip ties so we zip tied his hands an feet and seat belted him to the seat. We were 40 minutes from LAX. Police came onboard when we landed.”

Gino also expressed his hope to get in touch with the man’s family to see if he could provide any assistance.

United Airlines confirmed there were 76 passengers on board the aircraft along with five crew members. A representative of the airline said: “On Nov 16, local law enforcement met United flight 502 upon arrival at Los Angeles International Airport after a customer became disruptive.

“We thank our crew for helping address the situation and working to ensure the safety of everyone on board. We’ve banned this customer from future United flights.”
