Ruben Amorim will make his Old Trafford debut on Thursday evening as Manchester United host Norwegian high-flyers Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League
Ruben Amorim admits his Old Trafford debut as Manchester United boss is going to be ‘special’.
The Portuguese has no intention of seeing the moment ruined by a shock defeat to Europa League minnows Bodo/Glimt. Amorim is guaranteed a rousing reception from fans in his first home game since replacing Erik ten Hag last month.
But he reckons the occasion is more about the result than him getting personal adulation. United have won just one of their opening four games in Europe – and need three points to boost their chances of reaching the Europa League knockout stages.

Amorim said: “It will be a special time – but I just want to win the game. Before the game it all be like a new sensation, but after the whistle it will be just another game.
“We have a lot of games and are in the beginning of something. But we want to try to win every game. I’m just focusing on winning our first game at Old Trafford. Because if you win, it is a big help.”
Defeat to the Norwegian minnows would be unthinkable. But Amorim, who could recall Lisandro Martinez, has warned United to underestimate Bodo/Glimt at their peril.
He added: “I’m expecting a tough game. They run a lot and we need to improve on that. They also have some special players on the wings. They are winning all the time (in Norway), so I’m expecting a very, very intense game. It should be a good game.”
