Miserable Brits really feel utterly cheated out of summer time and need to flee as snow hits

Fed-up Brits are increasingly seeking winter foreign sunshine trips to get away from the cold weather.

Many say they feel completely cheated out of a summer this year and want to flee the country as the mercury nosedives.

Freezing cold and unhappy, many are now on the hunt for a winter sun booking and are desperately searching online for bargain deals.

Stats show two thirds feel like they had little sunshine to speak of this summer with 75% now seeking a bit of winter heat abroad.

Travel experts say that winter holiday hunters are becoming more common than those looking for holidays in the summer months – with price hikes in the summer holidays also being a contributing factor.

Sunseekers are looking at warm destinations including the Canary Islands, Cyprus, Sicily, Malta, Barbados, Jamaica, and Dubai.

Brits want an escape from the mundane, with dark mornings, paying the heating bills, slipping on ice and getting out of a warm bed in the morning when the house is cold named as the worst things about winter.

Paul Paddock, Head of Travel and Protection at the Post Office, which did the study, said: “Three in four holidaymakers are considering winter sun holiday destinations as the nation looks to escape the British winter, following the coolest summer in a decade.

“Once you’ve booked a winter sun holiday, we’d advise you to purchase travel insurance and to read the policy carefully to understand what it covers.

“This will help to avoid unnecessary expenses, should you experience the unexpected whilst away. It helps to protect you and your family and can alleviate a lot of stress should anyone fall ill.”
