Snow is set to blanket various parts of the UK in just a few days. Weather maps from WXCharts reveal a frosty wintry front sweeping across the country on Thursday, December, 12 causing temperatures to nosedive.
Some of the hardest-hit areas around the Scottish Borders could see as much as 10cm of snowfall, while northwest England, coastal regions of Wales and much of Northern Ireland are also expected to see significant snow accumulations. However, a few areas including Yorkshire, East Anglia, the Midlands and southeast England will dodge the falling flakes.
Rain is also predicted for the southwest. The UK is also bracing for chilly conditions, with minimum temperatures forecast at -1C in the Highlands, 0C-1C in the north of England, 1C-2C in Wales and the Midlands, and 3C-4C in the south.

WX Charts maps also show 1C in Northern Ireland. Netweather’s long-range forecast suggests a more unsettled turn in the weather between December 9 and 17, hinting at further cold snaps in the north.
It adds: “This means that there could be snow for some, particularly on high ground and in the north,” reports the Mirror.
This comes after bookies tipped next month to be the coldest December on record. Odds have now been slashed in half to just 2/1 on a record-breaking cold December, having been a 4/1 shot earlier this week.
The betting is on, and it’s looking like a snowy scene could grace the UK this Christmas.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes commented, “Things are about to get a whole lot colder over the UK, if the latest odds are anything to go by, while a White Christmas is looking increasingly more likely.”
Meanwhile, rain will pour down in the north and west this Friday, with showers ready to drench the east by nightfall. Despite the wet outlook, we’ll be riding a mild wave with temps climbing up to 10C in London and Edinburgh, 11C in Cardiff, and Belfast enjoying a breezy 13C.
Friday’s serving up persistent cloud and rain in the northern and western regions. But the southeast will stay largely dry with some rays of hazy sunshine.
