Real Madrid are reportedly contemplating a move for a Manchester United star as a possible alternative to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Madrid have continued to be linked with a move for Alexander-Arnold, whose contract expires in the summer.

The 25-year-old is yet to sign a new deal and will be free to speak to foreign clubs from January 1.

However, Relevo report that Los Blancos are losing some hope with Liverpool flying high under new manager Arne Slot and Alexander-Arnold being a hometown hero.

The Reds sit nine points clear at the top of the Premier League table and hold a two point lead at the top of the Champions League table.

Real Madrid are looking at alternatives should they fail in their bid to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold

Their form could well see Alexander-Arnold rethink his future at Anfield and now Madrid are looking at other potential additions in the position.

Diogo Dalot has been one of the few players to impress at United in recent times and Madrid value him in the region of £41m.

The report adds that United were even approached by the 15-time Champions League winners about Dalot while Erik ten Hag was still in charge.

Madrid, who sit second in the Spanish top-flight, are currently operating without a right back following the ACL injury to Dani Carvajal that will sideline him for the rest of the term.

Dalot joined United from Porto in 2018 and has since made 178 appearances, contributing six goals and 12 assists.

The right-back enjoyed his best season for the club in the 2023-24 campaign, starting 35 Premier League matches and voted player of the year by his team-mates.

Speaking about the Portuguese last week, new United manager Ruben Amorim said: ‘he’s very powerful. We have to rotate him sometimes because although he always looks fresh, it’s not like that, he’s not a machine.

Diogo Dalot has been one of United’s standout players in recent years and had caught the eye

‘He’s a very good player. He’s better on the right and we will play him there more [but] nowadays a player who can play on both sides is perfect because you can put him in different positions.

‘I expect the same as you saw last season. A great player who can help the team. He’s really a team player, you can feel it in the way he lives the game, so he’s very important for us.’

Dalot put pen to paper on a new five-year contract last year which runs up until 2028.
