Tesco staff have taken to social media in droves after bosses unleashed a “two-hour loop” of Christmas music hell in all stores over the weekend. Like night follows day, December 1 sees stores all over the UK’s high street press play on its annual mega mix of Christmas tunes.
And while customers will only listen to it for around an hour maximum during their shopping trips, staff have to cope with it on an endless loops for weeks on end – and after just one day, many are already fuming over it. Taking to Reddit on a thread titled “welcome to 25 days of Christmas music non stop,” scores of staffers were quick to name their least favourite tune and to rage of how the music is making them go “insane”.
One said: “Hearing ‘Santa Baby’ today really has been the nail in the coffin for me this year. Suddenly realised how quick this year has gone working here. Paired with the fact I don’t feel any excitement to Christmas at all . . . sorry to be a Scrooge.”

But it turns out that this bloke isn’t the only Scrooge, as another raged: “It wouldn’t be so bad if there was actual variation or variety in the Christmas songs. There’s only so many times you can survive Mariah screech or yelling or the condescending tone of the ‘popular’ songs.”
A third posted: “The one I’m sure they put on in the store to annoy us is I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday by Wizzard. I just think that if you work in retail you don’t!”
And a fourth, who appears to have taken drastic measures to help cope with it, said: “My soul is leaving my body – we turn it off as soon as managers leave, I can’t take the same songs on a loop every year, every year, every year.”
So pity the poor shop workers being forced to listen to the introduction of All I Want For Christmas Is You 100 times per day while you’re stuffing your trolley with mince pies.
