Gary Neville’s Salford City is set to clash with Pep Guardiola‘s Manchester City in the third round of the FA Cup.
And just moments after his side were pulled out the hat, the pundit decided to cheekily tweet “he’s getting sacked in the morning”. The League Two club, owned by Neville, have reached the third round for the first time and will challenge the Premier League titans.
After defeating Cheltenham, Salford secured their spot in the draw and are now preparing to face the reigning English champions. However, City are currently struggling, with Guardiola overseeing a seven-match winless streak, including six losses.

Their latest defeat was a 2-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. As City continues to seek solutions, the crowd chanted “you’re getting sacked in the morning” towards Guardiola.
Neville’s tweet seems to echo this sentiment as Salford, currently 15th in the fourth tier, aims for a significant upset in the FA Cup. Since his arrival in England eight years ago, Guardiola has mostly avoided major upsets in cup competitions.

His worst defeat came in his second season when they lost to then-League One side Wigan Athletic. With their current form, City might need to rely on cup competitions to secure any silverware this season, reports the Mirror.
Neville has been harsh in his critique of City recently, stating after their loss to Tottenham: “They look well short. As short as I’ve seen them since Pep’s first season. I’ve not seen them as bad as this, how they’ve been in the last few weeks.
“It seems madness, when you think about what they’ve achieved. They’re easy to play against and teams are encouraged when playing them. The vulnerabilities are clear for everyone to see.”

Pep Guardiola is under pressure to turn things around with Man City by the time they face Salford in early January, especially with the hectic Christmas schedule looming. The reigning champs are grappling with issues which they need to resolve if they hope to chase down Liverpool in the league.
Guardiola has candidly admitted his past glories might be shielding him from a harsher judgement, stating: “Maybe I deserve to be sacked, honestly. Maybe I’m still in the job because we won six Premier Leagues. A lot of titles. Otherwise the hierarchy maybe would be thinking that this does not work.”
