Megan Barton Hanson has revealed her horrifying ordeal at the hands of an abusive ex, saying she fell pregnant after he removed his condom without her consent, an illegal practise known as stealthing.
Speaking to Paul Carrick Brunson on his podcast We Need to Talk, Megan revealed the ordeal happened before she found fame on Love Island, when she was dating an older man.
Megan revealed they had opted to terminate the pregnancy but her ex fell into a violent rage on their way home from the procedure.
She recalled: ‘He was like, “You’re disgusting. You just killed our baby.” Then he’s like, “You make me sick”, then he got the seat belt, wrapped it around my neck, bit my nose – this was post nose job – and said, “Think you’re pretty with that new nose?”, bit it, started filming me and goes, “Cry, b***h. Go and tell the camera what you’ve just done”.
‘I was in so much shock, I couldn’t even have tears. I couldn’t breathe.’
Megan revealed she was then given ’10 seconds to run’ to safety as her ex threatened to kill her.

She recalled: ‘We’re on a motorway, cars are speeding past at 70mph. I thought, even if I try [to run] it’s just going to anger him more because he’s definitely going to catch me, so I just stood there frozen.’
While the ex eventually took her home the ‘nightmare’ continued when the abusive ex arrived at her parents’ home armed with a crowbar.
Megan revealed he ‘squared up’ to her marine biologist dad Kevin and ‘strangled’ her mum Justine.
The family fled to safety in their car but he hurled the crowbar through the rear window.
Megan confessed: ‘I thought he’d literally kill me, the way he was. He was acting literally psychotic.’
She reported her ex to the police and after testifying against him in court he was sentenced to a month and a half in prison.
During the podcast, Megan also detailed another abusive relationship where she was held at knifepoint.
She explained that she had tried to end the relationship when, ‘He put a knife to my throat and asked me to put his bank details into my online banking and transfer him ten grand a month because he was taxing me for not loving him.
“My hands were shaking. I was like, “Okay, okay”. He was smashing my whole house up, saying “Yeah, I know you don’t love me, you f***ing bitch.”‘
Megan found fame when she appeared on Love Island in 2018
Terrified Megan then stayed in the relationship and agreed to go on holiday with him, where the abuse continued.
Megan, who worked as a stripper and doing webcam work before Love Island, recalled: ‘He slapped me, I fell in the bed, then he was pacing the room for what felt like four hours, telling me what a piece of s*** I am, that I’m an escort slut, that no one’s gonna respect me ever. I was just thinking, “Do I run?”
The reality star revealed she had decided to speak out about her ordeal in the hope it would give other victims the strength to come forward.
She explained: ‘I’m not saying this like “woe is me, I’m a victim”. It was so long ago I’ve had copious amounts of therapy and I’m really in a good place, but I just want girls to know, it doesn’t matter what your profession is, whether people deem you as a slut or you brought it on yourself.
‘Or your friends have warned you for months and months, “Leave that man, he’s no good for you. He’s shown weird tendencies.”
‘It doesn’t matter what circumstances have happened. If anyone’s done anything like that, tell someone, report it.
‘I don’t like to speak about it because it drags up all that trauma, but I read just on the way in the car today, three women a week kill themselves because of domestic abuse because they can’t escape it.
‘So the more we report, the more is going to be done.’
Megan soared to fame on season five of Love Island, finishing in fourth place with Wes Nelson.
They ultimately split five months after the show ended, with Megan later claiming Wes prioritised money and career over her.
Earlier this year, Megan spoke exclusively to the Mail’s comedy podcast Straight to the Comments! where she detailed their relationshi now.
Megan revealed: ‘Yeah, we’re like civil, we’re friends. If I saw him [Wes] out, I’d chat to him.’
Elsewhere in the chat, Megan – who came out as bisexual in 2019 – detailed the difference between her romantic relationships with women and men.
She explained: ‘I try not to look at gender. I think for me it’s more about the connection I have with someone. If they’re bringing something to my life, they’re making me a better version of myself, and they’re just a nice person.’
Reflecting on her past romances she added: ‘I’ve dated so many a**holes, I’m just open; if they’re a girl, a guy, it doesn’t matter to me.’
