Mikel Arteta outlines largest lesson he can provide Ruben Amorim forward of Prem conflict

Mikel Arteta has offered one bit of advice to Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim.

Ahead of their Premier League clash on Wednesday (December 4), the Arsenal boss opened up about his rivals: “Obviously you can see his fingerprints and what he wants to do straight away. He’s been clear. He’s been very successful at Sporting, it was remarkable what he achieved there.

“Especially the way he did it and how his team was playing. He brings energy and ideas to a new club. That’s always something positive. But we have to focus on what we have to do.”

Talking about his own start at Arsenal, he offered some advice to Amorim: “How unpredictable this job is. I jumped in in the middle of the season in very special circumstances and then we got hit by Covid,” reports the Mirror.

“You can plan whatever you want but football takes you in any direction you can never imagine and you have to deal with it. Take it as it comes, face it and go for it.”

Arteta played it sly when grilled about the fitness of his squad before Arsenal’s crunch Premier League match. The Gunners gaffer witnessed Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel hobble off in the stunning 5-2 romp over West Ham on Saturday, while Thomas Partey and Mikel Merino missed out due to slight niggles.

But when prodded on Tuesday for a fitness briefing, Arteta kept it zipped, stating: “We’re going to have a meeting this afternoon. We have done a training session.

“We monitor and keep some players away from certain activities. After that meeting we’ll decide who is fit and available and who will start. They all want to play.”

Defensive duo Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu both look set to be out for a prolonged period.
