Boy, 12, rushed to hospital after being hit by automotive throughout faculty rush hour in Birmingham

A 12-year-old boy has been rushed to hospital after he was hit by a car during rush hour in Birmingham.

A major road in the city was closed in both directions after the crash, causing travel chaos.

The youngster was hit by the vehicle at around 4pm on Winson Green Road on Tuesday, and was raced taken to hospital.

The street remained closed for several hours as marked police cars could be seen blocking the area, causing major disruption for motorists and buses.

The driver involved in the collision reportedly remained on the scene to assist officers with their enquiries.

West Midlands Police has launched an appeal for anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.

A statement from the force read: ‘We were called to Winson Green Road, Birmingham at around 4.05pm today after a child was knocked over by a car.

‘A 12-year-old boy was taken to hospital to be checked over.

‘The driver remained at the scene and assisted officers with their inquiries. 

‘We would urge anyone with dash-cam footage or who was in the area at the time and has any information to get in touch via Live Chat quoting log 3312 of December 3.’

The closure of Winson Green Road was causing major congestion on nearby roads from around 4pm onwards. 

‘Traffic was being fed along Lodge Road, Norman Street, Peel Street and other narrow roads and then re-joining Dudley Road and City Road. Motorists travelling in the area were urged to ‘avoid if possible’.
