Darts stars supply followers ‘sick notes’ after heavy Ally Pally nights at World Championship

It’s almost Christmas – and that means only one thing: The Paddy Power PDC Darts World Championship.

However, those heading to the Ally Pally have to balance boozy nights with work in the morning, but the PDC have come up with a solution. Fireball, PDC’s partners, have launched a ‘Sick Note Service’ where fans can send their boss a sick note from one of their favourite darts stars.

The campaign launched on Thursday, with a hilarious The Office-style video staring World Champions Michael Van Gerwen, Michael Smith and Gary Anderson, as well as David Brent impersonator Tim Oliver, who explains how fans can receive their sick note.

The Brent impersonator pulls out all his tricks – to the dismay of the darts stars. There’s the iconic dance, an acoustic guitar, and general awkwardness.

Fireball launched the campaign after it was revealed that a whopping 46% of Brits are set to pull a cheeky sickie at some point this month.

Lorenzo Farronato, spokesperson at Fireball, said: “Much like Fireball, darts is a sport with a fanbase dedicated to fun and camaraderie, with a splash of mischief woven in.

“Both Fireball and our partners at the PDC have those fans at the forefront of everything we do – we are always looking to introduce programs that spice up their experiences while delivering something a bit unexpected at every turn.

“The World Darts Championship is one of the hottest tickets in town this season and we’re excited to give darts enthusiasts the opportunity to enjoy it without worrying about next-day woes, courtesy of some of their favourite players competing in the tournament.”
