Fourteen gamers despatched off as soccer groups go to conflict and police compelled to intervene

A staggering 14 players were shown red cards after a football match descended into a wild brawl.

Footage shows how technical staff, managers and even police intervened after the chaos broke out on the pitch. The melee was filmed by a fan in the stands as the confusion unfolded in Turkey.

The trouble began in the 45th minute, when players from Dinar Belediyespor accused their opponents from Demirçevre Spor of time-wasting before a free kick. Players from both teams traded insults before a fight broke out.

Punches were thrown and kicks aimed at rival players, before staff and officials ran onto the field in a desperate bid to control tempers. The two teams were battling it out for the top spot in Group C of the Afyonkarahisar 1st Amateur League on Sunday (December 1).

After finally managing to separate the players, the referee showed red cards to five players from each team. He also showed red cards to two players from each team’s bench, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Because the number of athletes from each team had fallen below seven, the match had to be suspended. However, it wasn’t even close to being the dirtiest game football has ever seen.

The record for the most players sent off in a single football match is 36, during an Argentine Primera D game between Club Atlético Claypole and Victoriano Arenas. The match, officiated by Damián Rubino, took place at the Estadio Rodolfo Capocasa in Claypole, Argentina, on February 27, 2011.
