Met Office points Storm Darragh ‘hazard to life’ warnings – see full checklist

The Met Office has issued warnings to almost every part of the UK ahead of Storm Darragh’s arrival. The storm was officially named yesterday and is on its way, bringing with it 80mph winds and an amber “danger to life” warning for parts of the country.

It will take hold later today, and is set to last for 72 hours, and comes off the back of an already tumultuous period. But now Brits are being told to expect serious gales, snow and torrential downpours. For the areas impacted by the amber wind warnings – see below for the full list – the Met Office has claimed that there is a “good chance” that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

They also claim: “Injuries and danger to life is likely from large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties.”

And for parts of Scotland, snow will fall, with the experts stating: “A period of snow is expected to affect higher ground of Scotland during Friday evening and overnight into Saturday morning. About two to 5cm of snow is expected to fall above 200 or 300m with 10 to 20cm above 400m which will bring difficult travelling conditions and some disruption to higher routes. Temporary snow accumulations may also affect lower levels for a time on Friday evening.”
