Boy, 4, dies after being hit by bus on excessive road

A four-year-old boy has tragically died after being hit by a bus in Tipton.

West Midlands police officers were called to the scene on High Street just before 4.55pm yesterday.

The boy was found with serious injuries but nothing could be done to save him, police said.

The driver of the bus remained at the scene and is helping West Midlands Police with enquiries.

The high street was cordoned off for several hours as police dealt with the collision around the top of Owen Street.

West Midlands Police has appealed for any eyewitnesses or those with dashcam footage to get in touch.

People at the scene that the incident took place outside homes.

Officers were said to be taking pictures of a Diamond bus, BirminghamLive reports.

Several police cars were seen within a cordon after nightfall.

West Midlands Police confirmed to MailOnline that this was in connection to the incident.

Sandwell Police posted on social media: ‘We’re currently at the scene of a serious collision on High Street, Tipton.

‘The road is expected to be closed throughout the evening. Please avoid the area as much as possible.’

Police have since launched an appeal for more information. 

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: ‘We’re appealing for information after a four-year-old child has tragically died after being hit by a bus in Sandwell.

‘We were called to High Street, Tipton, at just before 4.55pm yesterday.

‘The boy was found with serious injuries and heartbreakingly nothing could be done to save him.

‘Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this devastating time and we’ll be doing all we can to support them. We know how very sad this will be for everyone.

‘The driver of the bus remained at the scene and is assisting with our enquiries. 

‘We need to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and has not already spoken to our officers. 

‘We’re particularly after any dash cam footage which could assist our enquiries into exactly what happened.’
