The DWP benefits warning comes as the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed the payment dates for December 2022 will be affected by the festive period
The DWP has issued a Christmas warning to millions of Brits. The Christmas period could see your payments coming in earlier or later.
For those on Universal Credit, Pension Credit and PIP, it’s time to rejig those budgets, as payments will be made at different times, leaving the DWP to issue a budget warning.
People due to be getting payments on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day will get their money on different dates. If usual payment dates fall on Christmas Day or Boxing Day, people should be paid on Christmas Eve, December 24. Those due to get their money on New Year’s Day should get it 24 hours earlier on December 31.

But remember, the early present means that the length of time until your January payments arrive is longer than normal. So, for budgeting Brits not wanting a blue Christmas, keep an eye out for those bank bumps unless you hear otherwise, reports Birmingham Live.
A DWP spokemsan said: “Benefits are usually paid straight into your bank, building society or credit union account. If your payment date is on a weekend or a bank holiday you’ll usually be paid on the working day before. This may be different for tax credits and Child Benefit.
“Some payments will be made earlier if they’re due between December 25, 2024 and January 2, 2025. Tell the office that pays your benefit if you do not get your payment on the day it’s scheduled.”
If your payment is due on:
- Tuesday, December 24: You’ll receive your Universal Credit and other benefits on that same day.
- Wednesday, December 25: Your Universal Credit will be paid on Tuesday, December 24, and other benefits will be paid on the 24 as well.
- Thursday, December 26: Your Universal Credit will be paid on Tuesday, December 24, and other benefits will be paid on the 24 as well.
- Friday, December 27: Your Universal Credit and other benefits will be paid on that same day.
- Wednesday, January 1: Your Universal Credit will be paid on Tuesday, December 31, and other benefits will be paid on the 31 as well.
- Thursday, January 2 (Scotland only): Your Universal Credit and other benefits will be paid on that same day.
