Madonna stokes controversy with AI-generated picture of the Pope seemingly getting handsy along with her

Madonna incited controversy after sharing AI-generated images of herself with Pope Francis.

On Friday, she took to her Instagram Story to share two fake photos of the Pope seemingly getting handsy with her.

This comes amid her longtime clash with the Catholic Church, which has been going on for over three decades.

Alongside rendered images of them meeting, the Queen of Pop, 66, wrote: ‘Going into the weekend like…’

She also wrote that it ‘Feels Good to Be Seen……’ over a fake photo of the Roman Pontiff with his arm around her waist and his face very close to hers.

In the images, the Like A Virgin singer, who poked fun at the religious leader in his own backyard while on tour in Milan late last year after her alleged excommunication from the church, sported her uniform — a busty corset and stacks of jewels around her neck.

The pop star stoked controversy and fans took to social media to share their reactions to her divisive post.

Many of her fans wrote tweets on X and questioned why she would share such photos.

A social media user asked: ‘Why would she do that?’

One fan addressed the uncanny nature of the photos when they tweeted: ‘Why is he sniffing her?’

‘AI HAS GONE TOO FAR,’ another person tweeted.

‘This is unethical and not good at all,’ one person added in agreement.

An X user wrote: ‘What is wrong with her ….’

One fan poked fun at Madonna and her younger partner while joking that she ‘finally’ found ‘a boyfriend that is her age.’

Another X user posted a laughing emoji as well as a heart as they called her ‘Naughty Madonna.’

In seemingly feigned shock, one fan tweeted: ‘Madonna wanting to get freaky with the Pope?!?!’

Meanwhile, one X user called Madonna ‘weird’ for ‘posting anything for clout.’

‘Why would she do that,’ another fan wrote alongside a crying emoji.

One X user slammed the superstar for ‘tryna be edgy.’

Another concurred, adding: ‘She wants to remain relevant so bad.’

In May 2022, she wrote a tweet addressed to Pope Francis and asked him to meet to discuss ‘some important matters’ — specially, her ‘blasphemous’ behavior.

At the time, she tweeted to Pop Francis asking for him to receive her. ‘Hellow @Pontifex Francis — I’m a good Catholic. I Swear! I mean I don’t Swear! It’s been a few decades since my last confession. Would it be possible to meet up one day to discuss some important matters? I’ve been excommunicated 3 times. It doesn’t seem fair. Sincerely Madonna.’

Back in the late-twentieth century, she was condemned by the Vatican State and multiple Popes of the Catholic Church.

She faced controversy in 1989 for her Like a Prayer’ music video, which featured burning crosses and an erotic depiction of Jesus.

At the time, Pope John Paul II encouraged fans to boycott Madonna in Italy and not attend her Blond Ambition tour in 1990.

Then, years later, Madonna came under fire again in 2006 for staging a mock crucifixion during a concert in Rome in 2006.

This led Cardinal Ersilio Tonino, with the approval of Pope Benedict XVI, to declare that she ‘should be excommunicated,’ per The Independent.

‘This time the limits have really been pushed too far. This concert is a blasphemous challenge to the faith and a profanation of the cross. She should be excommunicated,’ he previously stated as he condemned her racy performances.

Additionally, she was also previously criticized by the church for her concert in Italy amid her Who’s That Girl Tour in 1987, her advertisement with Pepsi in 1989 and for her first book Sex, which she released in 1992.
