‘We made a promise we might construct boxing in Liverpool – now it is time to ship it’

We made a promise we were going to build boxing in Liverpool. Now we are delivering it.

The Scousers love a good scrap in the ring and there’s few better fighting cities than the one of the banks of the Mersey. But they’ve been starved of stars for a few years now as talents emerged from other towns.

Natasha Jonas is on there this weekend on another promoter’s show but there’s plenty more Liverpool boxing coming from us. Some of their best also fought on the road a lot. But we are maintaining our commitment to big-time boxing in Liverpool with our March 15 card.

The Daily Star joins Bluesky as we Make Social Media Fun Again

Come and join The Daily Star on Bluesky, the social media site set up by ex-Twitter boss Jack Dorsey. It’s now the new go-to place for content after a mass exodus of the Elon Musk-owned Twitter/X.

Fear not, we’re not leaving Twitter/X, but we are jumping on the bandwagon. So come find our new account on https://bsky.app/profile/dailystar.co.uk, and see us social better than the rest.

You can also learn more about The Daily Star team in what Bluesky calls a “Starter Pack”.

So what are you waiting for?! Let’s M.S.M.F.A (Make Social Media Fun Again)

It is headlined by none other than Nick Ball. The Wrecking Ball has made his name on the road from Wembley to Riyadh. He’s won the WBA featherweight title and been involved in huge fights across the globe. But he loved fighting at home earlier this year when he beat Ronny Rios and the crowd were thrilled with the performance.

Now he’s back at the M&S Bank Arena next year with an even better fight as he faces TJ Doheny. The Irishman is a former world champion and been in there with one of the best in Naoya Inoue but I’m sure Ball will be his toughest night.

This isn’t just about the main event now, either. As I wrote, we are building Liverpool into a major fight city again and that means more than one talent.

Andrew Cain has got everyone excited. After a surprise defeat in 2023, he’s flying again and his clash with former world flyweight champion Charlie Edwards is a cracker. The British and Commonwealth bantamweight titles are on the line for that one.

Brad Strand is another Liverpool fighter we have high hopes for. Yes, he lost to Dennis McCann earlier this year but Dennis is a special boxer. Brad can keep his rebuild going against Ionut Baluta.

It is important to Queensberry Promotions that we keep investing in the UK boxing scene and this show is evidence of that. There will be plenty of big fights on these shores next year to ensure fans don’t always have to travel as we continue to build the sport in Britain.
