A man on the run from the police in Massachusetts ‘invoked the essence of seasonal icon Father Christmas after he legged it onto a roof and jumped down the chimney
Man attempting to escape from Police gets stuck in chimney
A man who thought he’d found an ingenious way of outrunning police got stuck down a chimney instead.
Fall River Police Department in Massachusetts, US, were executing a regular search warrant when 33-year-old Robert Langlais and another suspect fled to a roof. Footage shows an officer peeking inside a home, then yelling to his fellow officers that at least one of the suspects were on the roof. “Hey he’s on the roof. Get down here!” law enforcement can be heard shouting.
After getting rumbled, one suspect jumped from the roof to a parked vehicle, but Langlais “invoked the essence of the seasonal icon and attempted to hide inside of a chimney,” according to police.
According to USA Today, the detectives were alerted to Langlais’ temporary hiding spot when a passerby heard a man “screaming” from inside a chimney. Incredulous officers climbed onto the roof and peered down a shaft with a torch, to see the top of Langlais’ immobile head. “You’re an idiot,” one of them said.
Firefighters had to be called in to carefully knock out some of the chimney’s bricks in order to free the suspect. “Due to his Santa-antics (the man) was transported to a local hospital out of caution,” police said.
The man remained in a lockup on drug charges and other charges from outstanding warrants.

In January 2022 a daft burglar in Maryland, US, had to be pulled out by the fire brigade when he got himself stuck halfway down a chimney during a botched robbery.
Firefighters had to take the living room wall apart “brick-by-brick” after the bloke had lodged himself inside the structure. The homeowner only realised there was a man stuck in his chimney after “moaning noises” started to come from the walls.
