Manchester United fans reckon Ruben Amorim has made a statement about Marcus Rashford’s future after leaving him out of the squad to face Manchester City
Manchester United supporters reckon Marcus Rashford’s time at Old Trafford is over after Ruben Amorim dropped him from the squad to face Manchester City.
With the January transfer window opening in just over two weeks, speculation has been rife that Rashford is available. The 27-year-old, who prefers to play on the left-wing where he can cut inside on his right foot, does not look a natural fit in Amorim’s new 3-4-3 system.
While he did score against Ipswich in Amorim’s first game in charge, as well as netting a brace in their 4-0 win over Everton, the new United boss has left Rashford out of their clash against City all together alongside winger Alejandro Garnacho.
Speaking ahead of the game, Amorim told Sky Sports: “We try to evaluate everything – training performance, game performances, engagement with team-mates, [how they] push their team-mates up.
“Everything is on the line when we analyse and try to choose the players. It is my selection. Simple. I don’t want to send a message, it is simply an evaluation and they know it. The players are really, really smart. Everybody understands my decision and I have to choose. It is [a] simple selection.”
However, United fans reckon Rashford’s future now lies away from Old Trafford. One fan wrote on X: “No Rashford in the squad for the Manchester derby. It’s so over. Sad it’s ending this way.”
A second said: “Rashford not even being in the squad for a Manchester Derby is also very spooky.” A third commented: “Leaving rashford out is crazy to me. I know his form hasn’t been great but he can change games.”
And a fourth added: “Rashford leaving in January would devastate me.” And a fifth wrote: “Amorim leaving Rashford and Garnacho out of the squad for the derby tells every player that they aren’t safe.”
