Man Utd followers left livid as Mason Mount injured in opening ten minutes of derby

Manchester United fans have been left furious at a ‘finished’ Mason Mount after he was forced off injured against bitter rivals Manchester City

Mason Mount was forced off early against Manchester City

Manchester United fans were left furious on Sunday afternoon as Mason Mount was forced off within the opening ten minutes.

United had made the short journey to the blue half of the city as they clashed with Manchester City, in a must-win derby match. Mount was named among the starters by Ruben Amorim, but he limped off and was replaced by Kobbie Mainoo in the opening exchanges.

Red Devils fans were left furious, questioning why he was even picked in the starting side in the first place – with Mount’s last full 90 minutes coming against Crystal Palace in January 2023.

“When I catch Chelsea man, they sold us a finished Mount,” one fan fumed. While a second said: “Chelsea scammed us so hard for Mason Mount. £60m for a washed player who would be available on free next summer!”

“Whoever decided it was a good idea to sign Mason Mount is an idiot,” a third posted. And another added: “Feel for Mount. Wasn’t an injury prone player at Chelsea. So many injuries after joining United!”

Mount’s inclusion in the starting side wasn’t the big team news of the afternoon – with Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho both missing out on the side.

Amorim dropped the pair via WhatsApp and he explained to Sky Sports: “We try to evaluate everything – training performance, game performances, engagement with team-mates, [how they] push their team-mates up.

“Everything is on the line when we analyse and try to choose the players. It is my selection. Simple. I don’t want to send a message, it is simply an evaluation and they know it. The players are really, really smart.
