EXCLUSIVE Harry Maguire has revealed he’s opened talks with Manchester United over a new deal – with the England international currently out of contract in the summer
Harry Maguire is closing in on a new deal with Manchester United.
The England defender will be out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with a move elsewhere. The 31-year-old will be free to take to other clubs in January.
But Maguire has revealed he is in talks with United bosses about extending his stay at Old Trafford. United have the option of triggering a 12-month extension next summer.
And Maguire admits negotiations have been positive, when it comes to him having a future under new boss Ruben Amorim. Maguire said: “Listen, I haven’t really thought about it. I’ve still got this year to go, with an option in their hands.
“But, yeah, talks are ongoing and all the signs are positive at the moment. The chat that I’m having is really positive.”
Maguire has been keen to leave United in the previous two summers, after enduing a difficult relationship with former boss Erik ten Hag. He came close to joining West Ham in the summer of 2023, but was unable to agree a settlement figure with United.
But the arrival of Amorim appears to have given Maguire a new lease of life. He was outstanding in United’s stunning 2-1 win at Manchester City on Sunday, and has been told he is part of Amorim’s plans moving forward.
Maguire became the most expensive defender in world football when he joined United from Leicester City in an £80m deal in 2019. He has won 64 England caps, but missed this summer’s Euros due to injury.
