Kay Burley is reportedly set to leave her role as lead presenter of Sky News’ breakfast show after five years, with the 63-year-old’s last day on the sofa potentially coming as soon as this week
Infamous Sky News presenter Kay Burley could be signing off her long-held breakfast slot after a five-year run this week. And there’s even speculation that Kay could be waving goodbye to Sky News altogether, The Mirror reports.
Sources are making the claim about Burley, who since becoming one of the founding presenters on Sky News back in 1989, Kay, at 63, has been delivering the news to early birds since October 2019. She’s been at the helm for some earth-shaking news stories, including the heart-breaking death of Princess Diana and the world-rocking 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Just last month, Kay took to social media to reflect on her phenomenal broadcasting career spanning almost four decades. Laid back on a luxe blue sofa, she shared a moment with her Twitter fans, posting a photo with the caption: “Thirty six years today @skynews and counting..”

This trip down memory lane sprouted amid concerns from viewers as Kay was MIA over the summer, but she re-emerged in time for late August, reports the Mirror.
Suited up for her TV return, Kay shot out a tweet saying: “Thanks for all your very kind messages but summer is over and I’m back on Tuesday. Very much looking forward to seeing you from 7am? Do hope so xx”. Meanwhile, amidst all the shake-ups at Sky News, we’ve seen them whittle down their presenter lineup and introduce dynamic duos like Gareth Barlow and Mhari Aurora co-hosting.
Sky News’ business broadcasting bigwig Ian King is bowing out from his hit show, Business Live with Ian King, after a cracking 10 years at the helm. The scoop comes as the show’s set moves from London’s money hub to Sky Group’s Osterley HQ.
David Rhodes, Sky News Group Executive Chairman, spilled the beans on Ian’s upcoming exit. Ian’s sticking around until spring next year, while Business Live keeps its weekday live shows rolling.
Mr Rhodes praised: “Ian has been with Sky for 10 years, enriching our news report with his knowledge of finance and his network in the City of London. We’re delighted that he will continue to be a resource on our digital estate at this time.
“I met this morning with the Business team to discuss our continued commitment to ‘Business Live’, hosted in recent months principally by Paul Kelso and Darren McCaffrey from our main newsroom.
“We’re increasing our investment in this area, for instance in the hit Money Blog – a consistent audience favourite. I want to thank Ian for his commitment to Sky News; we’ll make sure to organise a deserved send-off next year.”
