Millions of Brits warned over key profit set to be scrapped in simply weeks

The benefit is a one-off £750 payment to help people on certain benefits, but it’s set to be scrapped in weeks

People who claim DWP PIP or DLA warned benefit being ‘scrapped’ in two weeks

Those claiming Personal Independence Payment and Disability Living Allowance are set to lose out on a nifty £750 perk, as it’s reported the Motability Scheme’s New Vehicle Payment will cease in two shakes. The deal, which is a helpful £750 one-off payment designed to assist DWP PIP or DLA beneficiaries to snag a fresh set of wheels via the Motability Scheme, had a finish line set for 31 December 2024.

However, there’s been a minor reprieve with organisers extending the deadline to 3 January 2025. A bit of festive cheer, giving a last chance for an upgrade if car dealerships have their shutters down over the Christmas period.

The scheme organisers have clarified: “This was due to end on 31 December 2024 for new customers, but we’ve extended it for a few days until 3 January 2025. This is to give you a final chance to order your first car if your dealer is closed over the festive period.”

They added: “Already have a vehicle on the Scheme? This end date does not affect you. If you’ve not already had the New Vehicle Payment, you’ll get it with your next car, even if that’s after 3 January 2025. You can use our tool to check.”

Ayone who gets their hands on their first car or Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) by January 3 2025 is in for the £750 treat, reports Birmingham Live. Just remember that you don’t need to have the car by January 3, but your order with the dealer has got to be sealed and delivered by then.

The £750 New Vehicle Payment is a one-time offer, not applicable to every new vehicle purchase. There are two methods of utilising this payment.

If your chosen car requires an Advance Payment, you can forward your £750 to the dealer to offset this cost. However, if the Advance Payment exceeds £750, you’ll have to cover the remaining amount.

The scheme organisers continued: “If it’s less than £750, we’ll send you the rest after you get your vehicle, to spend how you choose. Your dealer will ask how you’d like to use your New Vehicle Payment when you’re ordering. You can only use the New Vehicle Payment towards the cost of your vehicle’s Advance Payment. You cannot use it towards the cost of adaptations or optional extras.

“If you do not ask for your New Vehicle Payment to go your dealer, or you order a car without an Advance Payment, we’ll send this to you in full within a few weeks of getting your new vehicle. We’ll send this by bank transfer if you’ve saved your bank details in your Motability Scheme online account. If not, we’ll send a cheque.”
