At the request of her ex-cop and convicted paedophile son, Rebekah Edwards buried a phone alongside the family’s dead moggy – when police recovered it the device was ‘incapable of examination’
A mum has been sent to the slammer after she buried a phone the the grave of the family cat in order to protect her paedo ex-cop son.
Rebekah Edwards, 48, pleased guilty to perverting the course of justice after concealing evidence and was sentenced to two years in jail today, Wednesday, December 18. She buried the phone along with the dead animal in effort to protect her son, 25-year-old Lewis Edwards. The former cop was given a life sentence last year and was sentenced for further offences of possession of indecent images of children on Tuesday.
Previously the sicko admitted to 160 counts of child sexual abuse and blackmail involving 4,500 induce images of children. After losing an appeal in May, the former South Wales police officer will serve a minimum of 12 years, Sky reports.
While his mum’s sentence could have been suspended, the judge said the offence was “too serious” for anything other than sending her straight to the slammer. Rebekah will have to serve half of her sentence in custody before she is released on license.
Cardio Crown Court hear that police searched Lewis’ home address on February 8, 2023. Prosecutor Roger Griffiths said that a number of electronic devices were recovered, but Lewis refused to give passwords to the cops.
In July 2023, South Wales Police learnt that Rebekah Edwards had recovered two mobile phones. Mr Griffiths said: “It was reported to the police that Mrs Edwards had asked [Lewis Edwards] what she should do with the phones.
“Lewis Edwards had said: ‘Bury the black one’.”Rebekah gave two phones over to the police, but was then asked about a third, which they believed to be in the garden.
Rebekah told officers: “I buried the phone in the garden when I buried the cat. A black mobile with a smashed screen was recovered from “the grave of the family cat” the court heard. The phone was “incapable of examination” due to it’s damage.
Mr Griffiths said that there was “no reason” for Rebekah to “retain any of the phones”.
