Tom Grennan admits he’s ‘got a bit carried away’ as he joins the race for Christmas number 1 and shared his commitment to the cause.

The singer, 29, will battle it out against the likes of Wham! and Mariah Carey, with his festive song, It Can’t Be Christmas and even got a tattoo to mark the occasion.

Permanently marking his bid with ‘Christmas no. 1 2024 is…’ marked on his right leg, there is currently a blank space for, hopefully, his track.

Speaking to The Mirror, Tom said: ‘The reaction has been brilliant – I can’t help getting excited now to be honest.’

‘It’s just great being in the mix with all those other megastar names that you think of as a part of Christmas, Wham!, Mariah Carey, Band Aid, but then when you find out there are literally only a few thousands sales between them all you start thinking actually I’d love to get to the top spot.

The song first entered the Top 40 two weeks ago reaching Number 25, before climbing to Number 6 on last Friday’s chart.

He added: ‘It’s something you grow up hearing about isn’t it, the Christmas number one, it would be an amazing Christmas present to land one – I can only cross my fingers now really and hope people keep playing and downloading it, but I’ve got a bit carried away already and got myself a new tattoo on my leg just in the hope we get there.’

The musician has teamed up with Amazon and written a special festive song for their advert.

The move marks the performer’s comeback and he could be successful as last year’s Amazon song reached number two.

Tom showcased his crazy ‘Christmas number 1′ tattoo on Sunday as he stays hopeful to beat WHAM! to the festive charts’ top spot.

In a snap shared to his Instagram, the singer has showed his confidence in his new hit.

The performer begged his fans to let his move ‘flop’ and get listening to his latest release.

Sharing a reel to his Instagram, Tom said: ‘I thought I’d make it interesting. I’m going to get ‘Christmas no.1 2024 is…’ and I’m gonna let you lot decide what goes on my leg.

‘It’s up to you. Stream it, buy the vinyl. We’ll see what happens. You lot, do not let this flop.’

The footage of Tom getting the tattoo done was sound tracked by It Can’t Be Christmas’ lyrics ‘Have I gone stupid? Maybe. Have I gone mad? Someone save me.’ The Christmas Number 1 reveal on Friday will be the judge!’

Tom will be hoping to beat Amazon’s previous star Sam Ryder‘s tune You’re Christmas To Me.

Amazon has had a strong of successful Christmas marketing campaign featuring UK-based pop stars.

In 2019, Ellie Goulding‘s cover of Joni Mitchell‘s River, topped the charts.

And the shopping giant has a secret weapon up its sleeve with a plan to play it to all customers who have Alexa devices meaning streams will go through the roof.
