Billie Jean, a rescue Chicken who lives in a pub in Cam, Gloucestershire, has been given a hi-vis jacket by her owner to keep her safe when she is on her walkabouts in the town
We still don’t know why a chicken crosses the road, but we do now know how it crosses it — wearing a hi-vis jacket.
Rescue chicken Billie Jean, who lives in the Village of Cam in Gloucestershire, loves to wander around the streets and her nervous owners thought it would be a good idea to give her a bright yellow vest to keep her safe when crossing the roads.
Billie Jean lives in the Railway Inn and landlady Sharron Brimble said their loving animal, who is well-known with the regulars, has begun to “wander a little bit further afield than the garden.”
So they decided to get a special hi-vis jacket to ensure drivers are made aware of Billie Jean when she goes on her adventures.
Sharron said: “We’ve had a few comments on Facebook saying that they were worried about Billie Jean crossing the road.
“So we decided to get her a high viz jacket!
“She’s a real character and likes to be on her own. She doesn’t like to be around any other chickens.”
She added: “Billie Jean likes to be fed, particularly cheese crackers sometimes when she comes into the pub. We hope this keeps her safe!”
This isn’t the first time over the last few months a bird has made the news for wandering the streets of the UK. In November a baby flamingo escaped from Paignton Zoo in Devon sparking a desperate search party.
The curious creature was said to be unsafe on its own and needed to be found and returned to the zoo.
Unfortunately, the poor animal wasn’t found and the zoo later released a statement saying they are presuming it had died.
Luckily, Billie Jean is safe, thanks to her caring owner and her hi-vis jacket.
