Luigi Mangione, the man accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, is set to be held in the same Brooklyn facility that currently houses Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.

Following his arraignment on federal murder charges, which could lead to the death penalty, Mangione was transferred to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn by federal officials. This is the same facility where Combs has been detained since his arrest in September on sex trafficking charges.

Interestingly, both men are now being represented by the same legal team. Lawyers Marc Agnifilo and Karen Friedman Agnifilo appeared in Manhattan federal court on Thursday to officially take on Mangione’s defence, reports the Express US.

Agnifilo also represents Combs in his separate case. Mangione is facing additional state-level charges, including first and second-degree murder and terrorism charges in New York.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg stated the state prosecution will run “parallel” to the federal case.

The Justice Department has indicated in a statement that the state trial is expected to precede the federal proceedings. Pennsylvania authorities have also charged Mangione with weapons possession and forgery following his capture after a five-day manhunt.

He has pleaded not guilty to the Pennsylvania charges but hasn’t entered pleas in New York. “[Mangione] appreciates everyone’s support,” Karen Friedman Agnifilo told reporters outside the courthouse on Thursday.

Combs, 55, remains locked up in the Metropolitan Detention Centre in the Brooklyn area of New York as he gears up for a high profile court case. As he prepared to take the stand against the federal charges, the details of the case were fleshed out in a pre-trial hearing on Wednesday (December 18).

Two of the singer’s children, Christian, 26, and Justin, 30, appeared in court and made a heartfelt gesture to their doting dad as they prayed in court. Combs replied to their loving gesture, by waving to his loved ones as the hearing took place.
