After Johnny Fisher was awarded victory against Dave Allen to win the WBA Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship, outraged fans slammed the result and called it a ‘robbery’
Johnny Fisher has defeated Dave Allen via a spilt decision to win the WBA Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship, but fans are dubbing the result a “robbery”.
Despite fan favourite Allen, 32, knocking down Fisher, 25, in the fifth round and utterly dominating the exchange for the five remaining one-sided rounds, judges awarded the younger man the win with scores of 95-94 Fisher, 96-93 Allen and 95-94 to the shock winner. Viewers of the match at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, were quick to voice their contempt at Fisher’s victory which some “could see coming a mile off”.
“ROBBERY!!!! Love Johnny Fisher but he got dealt real damaged and knocked down by experience and ruggedness. Feel sorry for our white Rhino, you will get the moment Allen. stupid,” wrote one fan.
Another chimed: “The whole of the UK seen that Fisher Allen robbery coming there…. Same old story.”
“That’s an absolutely horrific robbery Horrific. Johnny Fisher did not win that fight. I’m no Dave Allen fan, but that’s a disgraceful call. Disgusting,” said another fan.
Despite Fisher’s fame on social media, the youngster is also great with his hands inside the ring. At 25, ‘The Romford Bull’ now boasts an undefeated record of 13-0. Allen came is coming into tonight’s fight off of two wins.
Tyson Fury is set to take on Oleksandr Usyk tonight attempting to put himself back on the top of the heavyweight pile and become a three-time world champion.
Fury was beaten for the first time as a professional when he was outpointed by his Ukrainian rival in their undisputed clash seven months ago in May.
