People have been howling with laughter over a “selection box” of Irish blokes who hit the town in style. The group of 12 mates donned outfits as various Cadbury’s chocolate bars – including a Wispa, Curly Wurly, Buttons, Flake, Crunchie, Fudge, and more.

They formed a squad to rival Santa‘s elves for a pre-Christmas drinks. A snap showing the crew all snuggled up in a net bag has sent Facebook into meltdown, racking up a sweet 14,000 likes and over 700 comments courtesy of chuckling chocoholics.

The viral sensation even inspired one funster to wonder aloud if the squad’s Curly Wurly was “the tallest bloke” of the bunch. Compliments poured in with one admirer quipping: “This is pure comedy gold. Love the creativity and humour.”

While another fan raved: “This was the best selection box there ever was EVER!” One bemused commenter pondered: “At the end of the night was the Curly Wurly just left on his own!” Meanwhile, a different user couldn’t help but giggle at the sight, saying: “My first thought was how they have clearly got one of the mums to take that pic from the upstairs bedroom window. Then I spy a mum in the corner watching on.”

Inspired by the lads’ ensemble, other users began plotting their costumes. One wrote: “We haven’t got 10 friends. Maybe we can go as two fingers of a Twix.” Another added: “Saw a video of a group costume box of Cheezels at a music festival doing the rounds also – pretty funny.” And, one joker couldn’t resist adding: “I’m surprised the Flake turned up.”

Cadbury celebrated its 200th year in 2024 and is the world’s second-largest confectionery brand, just behind Mars. The chocolate empire was founded by John Cadbury, who began his journey as a Quaker selling tea, coffee, and drinking chocolate.

He kicked off the business in 1824 with his brother Benjamin and later, his sons Richard and Georgie joined the venture. Cadbury’s website says: “In 1824, John Cadbury opened a grocer’s shop in Bull Street, Birmingham. Amongst groceries, he sold cocoa and drinking chocolate – which he prepared himself using a mortar and pestle. And it became very popular.

“So, in 1831, John bought a warehouse nearby and started manufacturing, with help from his sons George and Richard Cadbury. Soon after, in 1847, they moved to a larger factory in Bridge Street. After becoming unwell, John retired from the business in 1861 and Richard and George took over – George in charge of production and Richard, sales.”

The statement continues: “Business was tough, and George was heard saying, ‘If the business ever makes a profit of a thousand pounds a year, I’d retire a happy man’. The turning point came when the brothers invested in a brand new way to process cocoa.”
