A new survey has uncovered the most popular items on Brits’ festive bucket lists, including getting the white Christmas they’ve always dreamed of at home
Experiencing a white Christmas at home, witnessing the Northern Lights in Norway and jetting off to Disneyland are among Brits’ top festive bucket list items, reveals a fresh survey.
The top 20 Christmas experiences also feature a journey to Lapland and spending Christmas day basking on an Australian beach.
In the poll of 2,000 adults, many Brits fantasise about ice skating at the Rockefeller Center in New York. Others envision themselves attending Midnight Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.
According to the survey, on the 25th of December, a third are hoping for a unique experience they can tick off their bucket list.
A spokesperson for Red Letter Days, which commissioned the research, said: “Christmas bucket lists are becoming an increasingly popular trend as people seek to make their festive season more magical.”
Explaining the reason behind the trend, they said: “a lot of this stems from a growing desire to experience new traditions and create lasting memories with their families.”

Three in 10 Brits are keen to experience new traditions, according to the study. And over half are hoping to take in the magic of these experiences with their partner, while 36% plan to do them with the kids.
It was also found that the majority of Brits would prefer to be given an experience over a physical gift as Brits have an average five items each, they are determined to experience one day, on their December bucket lists.
Whether it’s experiences closer to home or in tropical celebrations abroad, 77% agreed that Christmas was the perfect to make those lasting memories happen.
The Red Letter Days spokesperson added: “There’s been a noticeable shift in the types of gifts people are hoping to receive at Christmas.”
“With more favouring an experience over traditional presents, there’s a growing appeal of giving something which will be truly memorable.”
