The driver of a Porsche was killed in a horror motorway crash in Scotland, as two others were rushed to hospital. The major route was closed for hours as police probed the scene
A tragic event unfolded as a 65-year-old Porsche driver lost his life in a catastrophic crash on the M74, leaving two women hospitalised.
The incident occurred near Rutherglen around 6pm on Sunday when his Porsche Boxter smashed into multiple vehicles before careening into the central reservation.
Despite the fast response of emergency services, the man was tragically declared dead at the scene. A 45-year-old woman driving a Nissan Leaf and a 42-year-old in a BMW 2 series were rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for urgent treatment.
In the wake of the disaster, police closed off the motorway to initiate their investigations, with the route re-opening early on Monday at 4.30am, reports the Daily Record.
Drone footage captured above the aftermath showed debris scattered across several lanes and significant damage to the vehicles involved.
Investigators and road traffic police units scoured the crash site extensively. An appeal has been issued by Sergeant Adnan Alam at the Road Policing, Helen Street, Govan for witnesses to provide information, stating: “Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this difficult time. We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash and has not already spoken to police.”
“We would also like to speak to anyone who was driving in the area and has dashcam footage to please check this as they may have captured the crash or just prior to it taking place.”
“Anyone with information or dashcam footage should contact police via 101 quoting incident number 2609 of 22 December 2024.”
